Exploring Technical Writing

Overview

I started getting paid for technical writing in March 2021 and made over $20,000 from 25+ articles in a few years, alongside my work as an iOS developer. Between December 2021 and May 2023, I wrote another 25+ articles while working as a Developer Relations Engineer, which helped me get better at writing. Earlier this year, I worked on documentation for a startup that tens of thousands of developers read.

I have worked with 8 startups across the UK, Europe, and the USA. Writing on platforms like Medium and my personal blog helped me build my reputation as a technical writer in the Apple developer community.

Through all this, I learned how powerful clear technical writing can be for both the writer and the reader. In this book, I share how I got started, found well-paying gigs, charged up to $700 per article, set my rates, and used social media to get noticed.

If you find yourself asking:

  • How can I start my journey in technical writing?
  • What skills are important for success?
  • Where can I find high-value technical writing gigs?
  • How should I price my services?
  • What are effective strategies for promoting my work and building a brand?

Join me as I take you through my technical writing journey, which began in March 2021 and grew alongside my iOS work. This book documents the stories, the rates, and the practical steps that helped me build a reliable writing income. I share what I learned the hard way so you do not have to start from scratch.

"Exploring Technical Writing" is the book I wish I had when I started. My goal is to help you land your first technical writing gig and keep your standards high in this AI era.
